About Us
Growing up as the daughters of African immigrants in the United States, our journey has been one of heritage, transformation, and a deep-rooted passion for natural skincare. Our mother, shared her knowledge passed down through generations of timeless, natural ingredients and products like marufa butter, baobab oil and African black soap. However, the era we grew up in, the 80s and 90s, left us with limited access to these precious ingredients, leading us to resort to products like Palmer's cocoa butter and vaseline.
In those formative years, glossy pages of Teen Vogue and Cosmopolitan beckoned with chemical-laden cosmetic trends. Like many, we were drawn to these readily available products, attempting to blend in with the evolving beauty standards of the time.
Fast forward a couple of decades, and we found ourselves in Denmark, embracing our Nordic adventure. Along the way, our perspective on life and our choices began to shift. It was during a routine medical checkup in Copenhagen that we received a shock – the discovery of multiple benign tumors. This health scare ignited a profound reevaluation of the toxins we had unknowingly exposed ourselves to.
Research revealed that through skincare and makeup products women can be exposed to hundreds of chemicals daily, including harmful ones like BHA, Formaldehyde (a known carcinogen), Phthalates, and Parabens which have been linked to reproductive disorders and cancer.
Determined to protect not only ourselves but also our young children the urgency to find truly safe products intensified. We wanted to have full understanding and control of exactly what went into the products we used. Our solution? Create our own!
